Falling for Him #WipItUp #free #romance #discipline

It’s WipItUp time again. Woo hoo 🙂

I haven’t had much to share here lately, (though I’m sharing weekly at WeWriWa every Sunday through November for my Sci-Fi novel. But I don’t want to post the same snippet twice weekly.) This week, for WipItUp I’m giving you a snippet from a novella I’m giving away to subscribers of my newsletter. Falling for Him is the expanded version of the OP novella Courted by Fall.

TEARS IN her eyes, Cami continued to wave long after Xan’s car was gone. That was it. Her favorite brother and her new sister-in-law and best friend were gone. Off to Tennessee where Kathy would attend college and he would continue his law career. Escaped from Hyacinth for good. Lowering her hand, she felt the tears slide over her cheeks and wasn’t quite sure why she was crying. The last few months had been filled with so much emotion and losing two of the people she loved the most, hurt.

“Camille, come help me clean up.”

Her mother’s voice poured over the lawn and, used to obeying, Cami walked by the few people who were still milling about and followed her mother inside the house. “It’s good to see your brother so happy,” her mother said, handing her a dishrag to dry dishes while she piled dirty ones in the sink.

“Yeah. Kathy, too.” As the words came out, Cami’s hands shook and she managed to hide them in the cloth. Kathy had only lived in Hyacinth for one year and she was married to a great guy. While she was happy for her new sister-in-law, as she loved her brother and seeing the two of them together had been great, Cami grew up in Hyacinth. The man she expected to court her had up and left town two days before her eighteenth birthday after his misdeeds were revealed. That she had expected to marry Damian at some point, every girl in town knew. Some of them had reveled in teasing her about his getting some girl pregnant in college and dumping her. There had also been some nasty references to her chances of being with child. Kathy had told them where to get off, using language that Cami had never heard. Even though her language had garnered her several spankings from the man who was now her husband, it hadn’t stopped Kathy from defending her friend every time one of the girls went vicious.

It made Cami feel horrible that she was jealous. Of her friend.

Cami thought she had it all: the perfect life, the perfect future, and the perfect suitor; until it went downhill just days before her 18th birthday. Now struggling to pick up the pieces, she does everything she can, not letting anyone know how depressed she’s become. She does such a good job that she fools herself.

Newcomer to town, Jerod Kinsley, offers friendship. Used to the more traditional way of life, Cami doesn’t know what to do with it. When he and her family encourage her on a track she never knew was possible, Cami begins to find a new her. She likes this new future laid out in front of her. Unfortunately for Cami, her tendency to fool herself by blocking her own feelings rears its ugly head once again. This time, she pulls a stunt she isn’t sure she can recover from. With one false step, she’s afraid she’s not only ruined her chances of success, but of Jared ever caring for her as more than an acquaintance.

Warning: This book includes a formally structured society & scenes of loving discipline.
