Please help me escape!

A few have asked how Landria found her way to the portal in the Markham Library. So, I thought I would share it with you. She has a cousin who teases her hideously and happens to be chasing her through the house. She found the library and remembered stories that old manor houses were said to hold secret passageways.

Anxiously, she started pulling book after book off the shelf directly in front of her, trying to find anything – some secret switch – that would open a door and allow her entrance. It was only a matter of moments before Geoffrey found her and when he did, she worried what he might do, how he might try and humiliate her. Four shelves in she heard a creak outside the door and knew he was there.

“Oh, please,” she whispered to the books. “Please help me escape! I need a place to hide.” As if they heard her, a strange sound whispered around the bookshelves as though the books themselves murmured to one another. As the doorknob turned, a small door opened just below the ledge she was currently massacring. Gasping, she took barely a moment to wonder if she should do this, but then the door to the hall began to creak open.

“Little lamb, I know you’re in there,” he chuckled. “Come on, little girl, don’t make me wait.”

Without further thought, she threw herself through the small door that barely came up to her waist and squeezed into the tiny interior, barely closing the door before Geoffery could see her.

I think Landria never read Alice in Wonderland because otherwise, she would not have been so willing to enter that portal.

Book Description:

“Deep within the library there are secrets untold, hidden within the pages of the books it protects. Some say it is old magic, some say it is a curse, but they all say that once a generation, the door will open and the one who enters will live out the story in one of its novels.”

18 yr old Landria expects to spend a dull summer at her aunt and uncle’s house. That is until she stumbles upon a dusty, unused library and finds her way into the pages of an erotic novel. Attacked within moments of entering the story, she is rescued by the hero, Lord Nicholas Waring, who intrigues her more than she wishes. Once she finds herself back home she cannot forget him. When he follows her into her world and they fall in love, will they be forced apart by the words already written or can they rewrite their story?
