Please let me out! I’ll do anything.

Just seven days  to go before my novella Through the Library Door is out. Have you ever noticed how slow time can go? The days till its release seem to be crawling by for me.

As we wait for that fateful day, I thought I would give you a few excerpts from the novella over the next week.

In this excerpt, Landria rushed into the unused library to escape her cousin’s teasing. When a small portal opened that allowed her to hide, she was thrilled. Until she realized she could not get out.

Panicking, she began to pound on the door. “Let me out!” she called. Nothing. Using her foot, she began to kick. “I’m here!” she cried. “Geoff, I’m here!” Still no response. Scared that she would be stuck there, she began to cry. When she was a child, she was trapped in a closet for a full day and ever since then she had been terrified of small spaces. There had to be a way out.

After an hour of crying and pounding on every inch of wall she could find, she gave up for a while and just wept. This wasn’t fair. Why did things like this always happen to her?

Before she could continue, a strange sound met her ears. There were thumps, but they did not sound like footsteps – they were too muffled. There was also the sound of whispered muttering. The books! she thought with joy, kicking at the wall again. “I’m here!” she called. “Please let me out! I’ll do anything. Please!”

To her shock and amazement, the door immediately opened. “Well, now, that is an appealing offer,” said a cold voice. A male hand appeared. “Come, let us look at you.”

“Deep within the library there are secrets untold, hidden within the pages of the books it protects. Some say it is old magic, some say it is a curse, but they all say that once a generation, the door will open and the one who enters will live out the story in one of its novels.”

18 yr old Landria expects to spend a dull summer at her aunt and uncle’s house. That is until she stumbles upon a dusty, unused library and finds her way into the pages of an erotic novel. Attacked within moments of entering the story, she is rescued by the hero, Lord Nicholas Waring, who intrigues her more than she wishes. Once she finds herself back home she cannot forget him. When he follows her into her world and they fall in love, will they be forced apart by the words already written or can they rewrite their story?

Through the Library Door is the fourth Library Tale, but it is also the first in The Markham Library series.

Library Tales are tales involving erotica and libraries. Some involve BDSM, some do not. The first three are between 4,000-15,000 words.

The Markham Library series is about a private library belonging to the Markham family. Within this library the heroine or hero of each novella/novel finds her or himself thrust into the storyline of one of the novels it contains.
